Guardian Industries has announced a major leadership transition, naming Merritt Gaunt as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, following the retirement of Ron Vaupel, who served in the role since 2014. The appointment signals a new chapter for the business as it continues to strengthen its global position across high-performance glass solutions and industrial manufacturing.
In his new role, Gaunt will assume leadership of Guardian Glass, one of the world’s largest glass manufacturers and a core part of Guardian’s global portfolio. The company is widely recognized for its work in glass technologies that contribute to modern building performance, supporting key priorities such as daylight optimisation, energy efficiency, safety, and occupant comfort across residential and commercial environments.
Guardian’s leadership highlighted Gaunt’s experience and strategic direction as central to the company’s future development. Jeff Ramsey, Executive Vice President at Koch, referenced Gaunt’s track record inside the organization and noted confidence in the transformation ahead as Guardian Glass advances its ambition to become the preferred global supplier of glass solutions.
Gaunt’s journey with Guardian began in 2013, when he joined as Managing Director of Corporate Development. Since then, he has held a series of leadership roles spanning both operational and strategic responsibilities. Most recently, as Executive Vice President of Guardian Industries, he led core areas including business development and supply chain strategy, contributing to the company’s long-term growth planning and structural resilience in an evolving global market.
Before joining Guardian, Gaunt built a decade of experience across finance, marketing, and business development roles within other Koch companies, giving him broad exposure to industrial leadership models and scalable international operations.
Commenting on his appointment, Gaunt emphasized Guardian’s continued focus on innovation and collaboration, stating that the company is actively exploring new ways to “build, design, and inspire” through glass. With a workforce of more than 6,700 employees across five continents, he highlighted the importance of delivering new value-driven solutions for customers while strengthening relationships with suppliers, partners, and surrounding communities.
