The BNL–BNP Paribas Headquarters in Rome stands as a contemporary example of how advanced glazing can shape both architectural identity and user experience. Designed by 5+1 AA Alfonso Femia Gianluca & Peluffo architectures, the building is conceived as a refined, reflective volume that responds continuously to its urban and climatic context.

Rather than presenting a solid or opaque mass, the façade uses glass as a dynamic surface, allowing the building to shift in appearance throughout the day. Reflections of the sky, surrounding cityscape and artificial night lighting create a mirage-like effect, helping the structure integrate visually into Rome’s dense environment while avoiding obstruction of key views.

The façade performance is driven by a carefully selected glazing composition supplied by Guardian Glass. The project incorporates SunGuard™ HP Silver 43/31 and SunGuard™ HP Silver 35/26, applied on an ExtraClear™ base glass. This combination delivers high daylight transmission alongside effective solar control, a critical requirement for office buildings in Mediterranean climates. The result is a façade that supports occupant comfort while maintaining strong architectural expression.

Fabrication was carried out by UNION GLASS, with façade installation by Pichler Stahlbau, ensuring consistent quality and precision across the extensive glazed surfaces. The successful execution of the envelope highlights the importance of close collaboration between architects, glass manufacturers, fabricators and installers.
