Stoelzle Glass USA has announced a major $100 million investment to modernise its Monaca facility in Pennsylvania, marking a significant step in the company’s strategy to strengthen its position as a leading premium glass packaging supplier in the U.S. market. The project is designed to expand domestic production capacity while enhancing quality, efficiency, and sustainability across the site.
A key component of the upgrade is the complete rebuild of the Monaca furnace, scheduled for 2026. Once completed, the new furnace will increase melting capacity to approximately 400 tonnes per day, significantly improving output and operational performance. The furnace will be built in collaboration with the SORG Group and is expected to be around 80% larger than the current installation, while delivering more than 25% improved energy efficiency through advanced electrical boost capability.
The modernisation programme also includes a full replacement of batching and glass delivery systems, engineered and installed by EME, to support higher throughput and improved glass quality. In addition, Bucher Emhart Glass will supply a new forming machine dedicated to premium spirits bottles, increasing large-format spirits production capacity by over 25%. Antonini will provide new annealing lehrs aimed at improving bottle consistency, visual appearance, and production efficiency.
Beyond core production upgrades, the transformation covers the entire facility, including raw material handling, batch preparation, forming, inspection, conveying, and packaging systems. Enhanced process control technologies will further reduce defects and ensure greater visual consistency in finished products.
Sustainability is also a central focus of the investment, with improved energy efficiency and increased capability to incorporate recycled glass where technically feasible, depending on colour requirements. The facility is also expected to achieve BRCGS certification in 2026, reinforcing compliance with internationally recognised food safety and packaging standards.
