DHF Unveils 2026 Programme to Boost Skills, Standards and Industry Insight

The Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) has unveiled an ambitious programme of work for 2026, placing competence, standards, training and market intelligence at the centre of its strategy for the building hardware sector.

A key milestone will take place on 4 February, when DHF launches the UK’s first Ofqual-regulated and ABBE-accredited qualifications specifically developed for the building hardware industry. The exclusive launch event will be held at the British Motor Museum and is open to DHF members within the Building Hardware Group, manufacturers in the Timber and Metal Doorset Groups, and invited guests.

Developed by the industry for the industry, the qualification framework draws on more than 500 years of combined specialist experience and includes over 175 learning outcomes, each supported by clear and measurable assessment criteria. DHF says the qualifications establish a new benchmark for demonstrating and assuring competence across the sector. They will be available to members in spring 2026, with a wider rollout to non-members planned for winter.

Alongside qualifications, DHF is progressing plans to introduce digital CSCS cards, working in partnership with ADSA and CSCS. Expected to go live in late spring, the digital system will allow cards to be issued, accessed and verified online, with on-site scanning functionality. The federation says the move will improve efficiency, provide managers with instant access to qualification data, and help reduce fraud and misuse.

DHF is also addressing gaps in sector standards. Following discussions within the Building Hardware Group, the federation has identified the need for a recognised standard for key safes. A new technical standard has been developed and will be launched later in the year once final amendments are complete, reflecting the widespread use of key safes and their potential impact on overall security performance.

Responding to member demand, DHF will introduce a new ‘attendance-only’ training course aimed at office-based staff working in organisations that install, maintain or repair automated gates, industrial doors and garage doors. The course is designed to provide essential operational knowledge and will complement existing technical training programmes.

Commenting on the programme, Patricia Sowsbery-Stevens, Commercial Director at DHF, said:
“There is much to look forward to for the year ahead and these initiatives demonstrate our commitment to improving standards and competence while supporting our members as the industry moves forward. By introducing recognised qualifications, digital systems, versatile training and clear market insight, we are helping to create a stronger, more skilled and more confident construction industry.”

The DHF Conference is scheduled for autumn 2026 and will be open to all members, providing a platform for industry professionals to connect, share insight and stay informed on key sector developments.
