Vitro and Fabricator Network Celebrate 25 Years of Solarban® Glass Advancement

Vitro Architectural Glass and its Vitro Certified Network are marking 25 years of collaboration and technical progress centered on Solarban® solar control low-e glass. The milestone coincides with the network’s upcoming annual meeting, commemorating its first gathering and the evolution of a program that has become integral to high-performance glass fabrication across North America.

Since its inception, the partnership has enabled the shipment of more than 3.6 billion square feet of Solarban® glass worldwide. A key breakthrough came in 2000 with Solarban® 60, the industry’s first double-silver, vacuum-temperable low-e coating. Its ability to be shipped as monolithic coated glass and later cut and tempered by certified fabricators transformed supply chains, reducing lead times and expanding regional production capabilities. To date, over 2.6 billion square feet of Solarban® 60 glass has been delivered.

Further milestones followed with Solarban® 70 in 2005, introducing triple-silver coating technology that balanced high visible light transmittance with low solar heat gain. It remains one of the most specified low-e glasses, with nearly one billion square feet shipped. In 2010, Solarban® R100 advanced reflective low-e performance, achieving a solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) of 0.23, supporting stricter energy codes and façade performance targets.

The introduction of Solarban® 90 marked the first commercially available quad-silver low-e glass, pushing the limits of solar control and thermal insulation. Most recently, Solarban Champane™ glass expanded the portfolio with a warm, neutral aesthetic while maintaining high performance.

Members of the Vitro Certified® Network undergo rigorous audits and receive ongoing technical training in coating handling, fabrication precision, and quality assurance. This structured program ensures consistency in color uniformity, optical quality, and long-term durability, reinforcing Vitro’s position in delivering reliable, high-performance glazing solutions at scale.
