Designed by UNStudio, the Sungsan Siyoung Residences in Seoul represent a contemporary interpretation of high-density living where façade articulation and glazing strategy play a central architectural role. Located near the Han River and the World Cup Stadium, the project responds to its urban and natural context through a sculptural envelope defined by curvature, transparency, and layered depth.
The residential towers are conceived as softly contoured vertical forms, a geometry that directly influences the façade system. Rather than flat, repetitive elevations, the building envelope adopts continuous curves and varying orientations, allowing façades to respond differently to sunlight, views, and privacy requirements. This approach supports daylight optimisation while reducing direct visual overlap between neighbouring units, an important consideration in dense Seoul neighbourhoods.

Glass is a defining material of the project. Large glazed surfaces are used to frame panoramic views toward the Han River, Sky Park, and the Seoul skyline, while also enhancing the perception of openness within the apartments. The façade design suggests the use of high-performance architectural glazing, likely incorporating solar-control and low-emissivity coatings to manage heat gain and glare without compromising transparency. Such solutions are standard in premium Korean residential towers, particularly those facing sensitive riverfront orientations.

Balconies and façade recesses add further depth to the envelope, functioning as environmental buffers between interior spaces and the external climate. These elements not only improve thermal comfort but also contribute to the building’s dynamic appearance throughout the day as light conditions change. Vertical landscaping integrated into the façade structure softens the glass surfaces and reinforces the project’s connection to nature, while also enhancing microclimatic performance.
At podium and lower levels, the façade shifts in scale and expression to accommodate mixed-use functions. Increased solidity, combined with controlled glazing, supports privacy, circulation separation, and retail visibility, while maintaining architectural continuity with the towers above.

Overall, the Sungsan Siyoung Residences demonstrate how façade design and advanced glazing are fundamental to contemporary residential architecture in Seoul.
