Located in the dynamic Zuidas district, the Van der Valk Hotel Zuidas Vivaldi represents a refined balance between architectural clarity, urban integration, and advanced façade performance. Positioned on a distinctive triangular plot, the hotel responds to its dense metropolitan context with a clean, uniform architectural language that blends seamlessly into the surrounding skyline while maintaining a strong identity.
A defining spatial feature is the elevated fifth-floor lobby, designed to rise above the immediate urban fabric and offer uninterrupted panoramic views of Amsterdam. This architectural move enhances the guest experience while reinforcing the building’s relationship with its cityscape, an approach that places equal emphasis on comfort, openness, and visual connection.
At the core of the building’s performance is its façade. The envelope integrates Guardian Glass Europe’s SunGuard SNX 60, a high-performance solar control glass engineered to optimize daylight while minimizing solar heat gain. This glazing solution plays a crucial role in reducing dependence on artificial lighting, air conditioning, and heating systems, supporting both operational efficiency and year-round indoor comfort for hotel guests.
The project has achieved a BREEAM-NL Excellent certification, underlining the contribution of the façade and glazing strategy to the building’s overall sustainability performance. The careful selection of materials demonstrates how glass technology can directly influence energy efficiency without compromising architectural intent. 
Designed by Wiel Arets Architects, with façade execution involving fabricator Scheuten and glazier Rollecate, the Van der Valk Hotel Zuidas Vivaldi stands as a contemporary example of how thoughtful façade engineering and advanced architectural glass can elevate hospitality architecture in an urban European context.
