SOLAR MATERIALS has announced a significant expansion of its industrial recycling operations, doubling its annual capacity for end-of-life solar modules to 14,000 tons. At the same time, the company is introducing a flexible, modular capacity model designed to support rapid expansion across Europe.

Since spring 2025, SOLAR MATERIALS has been operating one of the world’s most advanced industrial-scale photovoltaic recycling plants, responding to the fast-growing volume of decommissioned solar panels across the continent. The capacity increase is driven by rising demand for specialised recycling solutions and the urgent need to recover critical raw materials used in renewable energy and construction-related industries.

A key strength of SOLAR MATERIALS’ approach lies in the modular design of its recycling line. Entire system units can be relocated and installed within weeks, allowing the company to deploy capacity exactly where solar waste is generated. The current expansion strategy focuses on Germany, core European markets, and the United Kingdom, reinforcing Europe’s energy and resource sovereignty.

Through its patented mechanical recycling process, SOLAR MATERIALS recovers all materials from solar modules, including glass, aluminium, copper, silicon, and silver. These secondary raw materials are reintroduced into European value chains, supporting circular economy goals and reducing reliance on imported resources.

“Our technology is ready for the European market,” says Dr. Jan-Philipp Mai, CEO of SOLAR MATERIALS. “Every ton we recycle keeps valuable materials in Europe, strengthening both environmental responsibility and economic independence.”
