Turkish glass manufacturer Ciner Glass has revised its plans for the batch house at its proposed glass bottle making facility in Ebbw Vale, Wales, UK.
Ciner Glass, the Turkish glass manufacturing company, has made strategic adjustments to the design of the batch house at its planned glass bottle production facility in Ebbw Vale, Wales, UK. These modifications were proposed following a meeting between the company’s planning agents, Arup, and the local authority, Blaenau Gwent council, on December 5. The alterations involve a 90-degree rotation of the batch building, orienting its longer elevations east and west. This change aims to shrink the service yard, minimize the development’s footprint, and facilitate the relocation of the warehouse to create a more preferred linear layout.
The proposal also includes the removal of 12 bulk material storage silos, reducing the building’s overall size. Originally, six silos were planned on each side of the structure. Additionally, two material feeder units for sand delivery have been introduced to the plan, replacing the previous design’s deep basement structures with a more efficient solution. The conveyor bridge structure will be relocated from the end to the side of the building due to its rotation.
In the new documents submitted to the council, focus is given to the expected noise from the batch building and the movement of raw materials. Arup, in its submission, highlighted that the noise had already been assessed as part of an addendum to a previous Environmental Assessment. It emphasized that the slight change in distance is unlikely to result in worse impacts, and the noisiest sources of the batch building would operate during the daytime when noise limits are less stringent.
Ciner Glass aims to construct the Dragon Glass Bottling Factory on the Rassau Industrial Estate on the outskirts of Ebbw Vale. The facility’s features include two furnaces, two cullet buildings, storage for rejected and recycled glass, two production lines for glass bottle processing, inspection and packaging, and an automated warehousing facility. A month-long consultation on the proposed adjustments to the plans began shortly after Christmas.
