Century Aluminum has issued an official response following the recent US Supreme Court ruling that struck down several global tariffs introduced by President Donald Trump under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).
The Supreme Court deemed many of the tariffs implemented by the White House last year as unlawful. In response, the Trump administration introduced a revised global tariff framework, initially set at 10% and later increased to 15%.
In a statement addressing the ruling, Century Aluminum reaffirmed its support for President Trump’s trade policies, describing them as instrumental in strengthening American industry and ensuring fair competition for domestic manufacturers.
The company emphasized that while the court decision affected IEEPA tariffs, the Section 232 steel and aluminum tariffs remain fully in force, continuing to play a significant role in protecting US metals production.
According to Century Aluminum, these policies have reinforced its strategy to reshore primary aluminum manufacturing in the United States, a material considered critical for sectors including aerospace, automotive manufacturing and national defense.
The company stated that since the reinforcement of the Section 232 program last year, it has accelerated investments aimed at expanding domestic production capacity and creating manufacturing jobs. Century Aluminum highlighted ongoing and planned investments, including expansion activities at its Mt. Holly facility and the development of its Oklahoma smelter project.
Describing itself as the largest primary aluminum producer in the United States, the company said it currently accounts for nearly 60% of the nation’s primary aluminum output and employs more US primary aluminum workers than any other domestic producer.
