In central Malmö, Börshuset is proving that renovation can be just as powerful as new construction, when it’s done with precision. This historic building is currently undergoing a carefully controlled transformation, preserving its original identity while being upgraded for contemporary office and business use.
The heart of the project is not a façade detail or a new entrance, it’s a new internal courtyard experience. The renovation introduces a light-filled central void, re-established as the building’s spatial anchor, and covered by a high-performance aluminium-glass roof construction that turns the courtyard into an active, usable space. Instead of functioning like a closed internal gap, the courtyard becomes a bright architectural core: open, calm, and naturally daylit.

What makes this intervention stand out is the choice of system strategy. Schüco Grid2Shell (G2S) is being used as part of an intelligent refurbishment approach, allowing complex roof geometry and modern performance to be integrated into an existing structure with high accuracy. G2S brings together plug-and-play efficiency, geometric freedom, and precise structural integration, delivering a roof that feels lightweight and transparent, yet engineered for demanding performance requirements.
Alongside Grid2Shell, additional Schüco façade and envelope systems are applied within the project, demonstrating how multiple technologies can work together as one coordinated package, especially important in refurbishments where architectural limitations, structural boundaries, and energy targets must all align.

Börshuset is more than a renovation. It represents a wider shift in European construction: upgrading and extending the life of landmark buildings, using advanced aluminium and glass solutions to achieve daylight, usability, and sustainability, without compromising character.
