Şişecam has commissioned the TR9 furnace and production line at its new greenfield flat glass facility in Tarsus, completing a €315 million investment that represents the company’s largest flat glass project to date. The TR9 line delivers an annual gross production capacity of 432,000 tons, positioning the plant among the highest-capacity flat glass facilities globally.
With the addition of TR9, Şişecam’s total flat glass production capacity surpasses 5 million tons per year, reinforcing its role as the only global company operating across all core glass segments. The facility is designed for high-efficiency float glass production, primarily supplying clear flat glass to the domestic market while also feeding base glass to a planned on-site coating line. This integration will enable the production of higher value-added architectural glass products, including coated and performance-enhanced solutions.
CEO Can Yücel emphasized that the strategic location of Tarsus enhances logistics, distribution efficiency, and access to key markets. The investment aligns with Şişecam’s sustainability-focused manufacturing approach, supporting optimized energy use, improved capacity utilization, and stronger margin resilience.
The project also includes vertically integrated raw material operations. A sand preparation facility within the Tarsus complex is now operational, ensuring consistent processing and direct furnace supply. In parallel, expanded limestone and dolomite processing capacity at the Mersin Organized Industrial Zone secures reliable input flows for the TR9 line.
