In today’s volatile market, supply chain resilience is no longer a luxury, but a necessity. Stoelzle’ Glass Group understands this imperative, and their multi-plant manufacturing network is strategically designed to absorb shocks and guarantee consistent customer supply, mitigating the need for extensive supplier diversification.
This capability was put to the test in July 2025 when a significant fire disrupted operations at Stoelzle Flaconnage, their UK production facility in Knottingley, West Yorkshire. While the event caused substantial damage, the swift and effective activation of Stoelzle’s Business Continuity Plan ensured minimal disruption for their customers.
Production volumes were seamlessly transferred to Stoelzle’s backup facilities in Poland, Austria, and France. This rapid redeployment of resources guaranteed uninterrupted customer supply during the UK site’s downtime. Crucially, UK specialists played a key role in facilitating start-up and providing on-the-job training at the backup sites, maintaining consistent specifications, decoration interfaces, and stringent quality standards. Transparent weekly updates on lead times and allocations provided customers with the information they needed for effective brand planning.
The success of these measures, in protecting supply throughout the UK site’s downtime, earned Stoelzle the prestigious Diageo Global Supplier Award 2025. This award recognized Stoelzle’s exceptional performance during a period of significant disruption, specifically highlighting their service continuity, close coordination, and accelerated tooling and mold management to safeguard supply for key brands. For premium spirits manufacturers, this accolade serves as a powerful testament to Stoelzle’s commitment to reliable supply.
Furthermore, Stoelzle Flaconnage successfully completed an accelerated rebuild and resumed operations on December 22, 2025. The rebuilt facility boasts cutting-edge furnace technology and new, high-performance forming lines. Since the restart, the UK site has experienced a seamless ramp-up, ensuring continuous supply and dependable delivery performance for valued customers. This investment enhances process stability and efficiency, enabling higher throughput and bolstering resilience for customers in the premium spirits segment. Stoelzle’s experience demonstrates that a robust and adaptable manufacturing network, coupled with a proactive business continuity plan, is essential for navigating unforeseen challenges and maintaining unwavering customer satisfaction.
