Vetropack Kremsmünster

In the heart of Austria’s picturesque countryside, the Vetropack plant in Kremsmünster is leading the charge towards a more sustainable future.

Through a series of strategic expansion stages, the company is steadily increasing its reliance on solar power, transforming its energy landscape and paving the way for a greener tomorrow.

The journey began with the installation of photovoltaic systems on the plant’s roofs, which now boast a total capacity of 4.18 MWp. These systems generate an impressive 4,469 MWh of solar power, enough to power the equivalent of 410 households annually. But Vetropack’s ambitions don’t stop there.

By 2026, the company plans to further expand its solar infrastructure, with the installation of additional photovoltaic systems that will collectively generate over 8 MWh of clean energy – the equivalent of 2,000 households’ annual consumption. This ambitious project, undertaken in collaboration with the renowned Austrian energy company VERBUND, demonstrates Vetropack’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

The strategic placement and integration of the photovoltaic systems ensure that 100% of the generated electricity can be directly channeled into the plant’s production processes, maximizing the impact of this renewable energy source. The result? A significant reduction in the company’s carbon footprint, with an estimated saving of 345 tons of CO2 per year.

Vetropack’s pioneering efforts have not gone unnoticed. In April 2024, the first expansion stage of the plant’s photovoltaic system became the focus of VERBUND’s “Solar energy from our own power” campaign, showcasing the company’s leadership in the renewable energy transition. Managing Director Johann Eggerth proudly serves as a testimonial, inspiring other energy-intensive businesses to follow Vetropack’s example and join the movement towards a greener future.

As the sun’s rays shine brightly over the Kremsmünster facility, Vetropack’s investment in solar energy stands as a testament to its dedication to sustainable practices and its role as a trailblazer in the industry. This innovative approach not only reduces the company’s environmental impact but also serves as a shining example for others to follow, paving the way for a more sustainable tomorrow.
