Bold Steps Toward Sustainability: Verallia’s Expansion in Cullet Treatment Centers
In a groundbreaking move towards sustainability, Verallia, a leader in glass packaging solutions, has taken significant strides by acquiring cullet (recycled glass) treatment centers across the Group. This strategic initiative aligns seamlessly with Verallia’s commitment to fostering eco-friendly practices and increasing the use of recycled glass in its packaging solutions.
Acquiring Key Players in the Recycling Chain
Verallia’s expansion journey includes the acquisition of three companies from the Santaolalla Group in Spain and Portugal: Ecosan Ambiental, Ecolabora, and Vidrologic. This acquisition has empowered Verallia with five new glass waste processing plants, catering to both industrial flat glass and hollow glass recycling.
Enhancing Cullet Processing Capabilities
With Ecosan’s integration, Verallia has gained four additional cullet treatment centers strategically located in Quer, Guadalajara, Burgos, and Torrelavega, Santander. These centers are pivotal in Verallia’s mission to increase the percentage of cullet use in its production processes, moving closer to its ambitious CO2 reduction target of 46 percent by 2030, compared to 2019.
Innovative Ventures in Spain and Portugal
Verallia’s ventures extend to new plants set to commission in 2023. Infiniver, near Seville, with an annual capacity of 60,000 tonnes, will play a significant role in supplying Verallia’s Portugal plant while catering to other Group factories in Spain. Meanwhile, Verallia and partner TMA Recicla are gearing up for the launch of Revimon, a cutting-edge cullet processing center in Portugal. This facility, anticipated to begin operations in Q4 2023, will process 70,000 tonnes and efficiently separate two-colored glass.
Sustainable Solutions Across Regions
Verallia’s commitment to sustainability reaches beyond Iberian borders. Collaborative ventures like Calcín Ibérico and Revica, in partnership with TMA Recicla, underline Verallia’s dedication. Calcín Ibérico, located in Quer, Guadalajara, focuses on recovering and selecting up to 25 tonnes per hour of white and mixed glass. Meanwhile, Revica, based in the Canary Islands, boasts a capacity to process 48,000 tonnes annually, ensuring efficient recycling solutions for the region.
