Thermoseal Group, a leading manufacturer in the fenestration industry, has recently made a significant investment in a new recycling plant at its Wigan factory.

This innovative facility is designed to reduce the amount of manufacturing waste that would otherwise end up in landfills, showcasing the company’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

The recycling plant is capable of handling all lengths of Thermobar warm edge, a key product in Thermoseal’s portfolio. By converting Thermobar into pellets that can be reused in the manufacturing process, the plant effectively closes the loop on waste management. This is a crucial development as previously, any Thermobar with attached barrier tape would have been destined for landfill.

Mark Hickox, the Sales Director at Thermoseal, highlighted the significance of this new recycling equipment. By efficiently removing the backing tape from finished Thermobar, the plant now enables the shredding and reuse of any waste generated during the extrusion setup process. This not only minimizes the environmental impact but also enhances the company’s operational efficiency.

One of the notable benefits of this recycling initiative is the ability to incorporate up to 20% of recycled material into the manufacturing process without compromising product performance. As a result, Thermoseal can proudly claim zero plastic waste in all Thermobar production, a commendable achievement in today’s sustainability-focused landscape.

Moreover, the plant is powered by a Solar PV System, further underscoring Thermoseal’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and operate in an environmentally friendly manner. This aligns with the company’s broader sustainability strategy, which includes recent initiatives such as automated production lines that significantly reduced energy usage and expanding the steel stillage scheme to minimize packaging waste.

In addition to its commitment to sustainable manufacturing practices, Thermoseal has also implemented innovative packaging solutions to further reduce its environmental impact. By collecting and reusing packaging materials, such as the plastic reels and cardboard boxes used for Thermoflex flexible spacer bar, the company has successfully diverted a significant amount of packaging waste from landfills.

Mark Hickox emphasized the positive impact of these initiatives, stating, “We significantly cut the amount of packaging that we use and ensure that everything is utilized until its lifespan is exhausted, thereby limiting the waste sent to landfills.” This conscious approach not only benefits the environment but also contributes to maintaining competitive pricing for customers.

In conclusion, Thermoseal Group’s investment in the new recycling plant and its holistic sustainability efforts exemplify a forward-thinking approach to business operations. By prioritizing environmental responsibility, the company sets a commendable example for the industry and underscores the importance of integrating sustainability into every aspect of manufacturing processes.
