Şişecam is reinforcing its position at the forefront of sustainable automotive glazing through its contribution to the Zero Emission Electric Vehicles Enabled by Harmonized Circularity (ZEvRA) project. As part of this European initiative, Şişecam is developing an innovative solar roof glass solution designed for a next-generation circular electric vehicle prototype.

The specially engineered solar glass is capable of generating electricity to support the vehicle’s battery system, transforming automotive glazing from a passive component into an active energy-producing element. This approach enhances overall energy efficiency while contributing to reduced carbon emissions across the vehicle’s lifecycle.

ZEvRA brings together 28 partners, including research institutions and leading automotive stakeholders, and is coordinated by the Fraunhofer Institute. Launched in early 2024, the project will run until the end of 2026 and aligns closely with the European Union’s objective of achieving zero carbon emissions by 2035.

Currently in the realization phase, the project is focused on delivering a fully functional circular car prototype. Şişecam’s solar roof glass is designed to minimize the use of natural resources and chemicals while improving vehicle performance and reducing environmental impact from production through end-of-life recycling.

The prototype vehicle is expected to be completed in the second half of 2026, marking a significant milestone for circular mobility. Through this innovation, Şişecam demonstrates how advanced automotive glass solutions can play a critical role in shaping a cleaner, more sustainable electric vehicle ecosystem.

Funded under the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Program, ZEvRA aims to establish a harmonized circularity methodology for electric light-duty vehicles across Europe, supporting a competitive, low-carbon, and future-ready automotive industry.
