Shape the Future of Architecture: Participate in Architecture Week 2026 (April 12–18)

Architecture Week 2026 returns from April 12–18, offering a nationwide program dedicated to inspiring the next generation through architecture and design. Organized by the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the initiative equips educators and architects with tools to spark curiosity and creativity among students from kindergarten through 12th grade.

Architecture Week highlights how design education enhances problem-solving, teamwork, and creative thinking while introducing students to potential career paths. Through this initiative, AIA encourages architects to collaborate with teachers, bringing real-world design concepts into classrooms and making learning more engaging and interactive.

A variety of activities and resources are available throughout the week. Students can join virtual read-aloud sessions with architecture and design authors, followed by live Q&A discussions. Educators gain access to interactive classroom tools such as the Climate Action Design Challenge, “The House That She Built” program, and the AIA/ASLA Plug & Play toolkit. Schools can also host visits from professional architects who lead workshops, mentorship sessions, and hands-on activities.

Community involvement plays a key role. Participants are encouraged to organize classroom displays, share content on social media using #ArchitectureWeek, and promote design awareness within schools and libraries. Students can also take part in creative challenges, including neighborhood sketching tours and design competitions.

The impact of Architecture Week continues to grow. In 2025, participation more than doubled, with 505 AIA members and 131 firms involved. School participation increased from 94 to 484 institutions, engaging over 20,000 students nationwide. Additionally, grants supported by the AIA College of Fellows enabled expanded programming across multiple chapters.
