Nippon Electric Glass (NEG) has officially commenced operations of a rooftop solar power generation facility at its subsidiary, Nippon Electric Glass (Malaysia) (NEGM), located in Selangor. The installation became operational on March 17, 2026, marking a significant milestone in the group’s global sustainability strategy.
Established in 1991, NEGM serves as a key manufacturing hub for the group, specializing in glass fibre production and medical glass tubing. The newly installed solar system represents the site’s first renewable energy project and has a maximum output capacity of approximately 7.6 MWp.
According to NEG, the facility is expected to supply several percent of NEGM’s total electricity demand annually, contributing to a projected reduction of around 6,900 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year. This initiative complements a Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) signed by NEGM in July 2024, further strengthening the company’s transition toward cleaner energy sources.
The project aligns with the NEG Group’s long-term objective of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 through the reduction of emissions across both domestic and international operations. By integrating on-site renewable energy generation with strategic energy procurement agreements, NEG continues to advance its environmental commitments while reinforcing operational sustainability at its production facilities.
