Tirana yesterday hosted the 215th edition of Zak World of Façades, marking a significant moment for Albania’s architectural and construction sector as the globally established conference series brought its international platform to the capital. Recognised worldwide for its specialised focus on façade engineering, building envelope innovation, and sustainable design strategies, the event convened leading professionals for a full-day technical exchange at Maritim Plaza Hotel.
The conference welcomed approximately 300 participants, including architects, façade consultants, engineers, developers, and specialist manufacturers, reflecting the growing regional engagement with high-performance building envelope solutions. The programme opened with delegate registration and networking, setting a collaborative tone that persisted throughout the day.



A key highlight of the morning was the session “Façades as Civic Identity: Shaping Contemporary Tirana”, which contextualised façade design within the city’s rapid urban transformation. Speakers explored how building envelopes contribute not only to environmental performance but also to the visual and cultural articulation of emerging urban identities.



The afternoon programme focused on applied methodologies and contextual challenges. Sessions addressed.and the evolving role of glass as a dynamic design medium. Of particular relevance to regional conditions was the examination of façade restoration strategies, balancing contemporary high-rise development with the adaptation and preservation of existing Soviet-era housing stock.



A conceptually driven session on cultural identity in façade design, referencing Skanderbeg’s legacy within Tirana’s urban fabric, reinforced the broader narrative of architecture as a cultural and civic instrument.
The speaker roster featured internationally recognised figures including Marco Casamonti (Archea Associati), Stavros Gargaretas (MVRDV), Catherine Huang (Bjarke Ingels Group), Enrique Mascort del Pozo (Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura), Beat Huesler (Oppenheim Architecture), Sofía Galán Rivera (Arup), and Jona Osmani (Municipality of Tirana), alongside leading specialists in façade engineering and material technologies.



The event was supported by Alukönigstahl as Presenting Partner, with associate partners including AGC, Alucoil, Aluflor, Bostik, Elval Colour, Gresmanc, Front, GIG Fassaden, i-Build, Kuraray (Trosifol), Tvitec Glass, Vasglass, and othersamong others.
