Island Windows Brings Window Recycling to the Isle of Wight Through REHAU Partnership

Island Windows Partners with REHAU Recycling to Bring Window Recycling to the Isle of Wight

Island Windows has taken a major step forward in sustainable fenestration by partnering with REHAU Recycling at PVCR, introducing a structured window-recycling solution to the Isle of Wight and significantly reducing polymer waste sent to landfill.

Until recently, removed polymer window frames were sent to a small local disposal site with limited capacity. That changed following a visit by Will Gold, CEO of Polyframe, a leading independent fabricator and long-standing REHAU partner. Discussions focused on how REHAU’s recycling infrastructure could provide Island Windows with a reliable, scalable, and environmentally responsible alternative.

The solution now sees old window systems collected directly from Island Windows’ site and transported to PVCR’s recycling facility in Runcorn, one of the UK’s most advanced polymer recycling plants. PVCR processes over 13,200 tonnes of post-consumer windows and doors each year, recovering high-quality polymer that is reintroduced into the production of new window frames and related applications.

According to Dominic Winram, Owner of Island Windows, sustainability has become a growing priority for both customers and the business itself. Beyond reducing environmental impact, the new process has also lowered disposal costs and improved waste management efficiency. Importantly, Island Windows has extended the initiative to other glaziers across the Isle of Wight, enabling controlled and consistent recycling across the local supply chain.

For Polyframe and REHAU, the collaboration highlights the value of supporting customers beyond product supply. By connecting installers with PVCR’s recycling network, REHAU continues to strengthen its commitment to the full window lifecycle, from manufacture through to end-of-life management.

As Ian Ward, Procurement Manager at PVCR, notes, making recycling accessible, regardless of location, is essential to advancing a circular economy in the fenestration sector. Each recycled frame represents one less unit sent to landfill and a tangible step toward more sustainable building practices.
