Technical Glass Products (TGP), an Allegion company, has announced that its FireLite fire-rated glass is now registered with an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). This independently verified document provides quantified data on a product’s environmental impact throughout its lifecycle, from raw material extraction to disposal.
FireLite’s EPD can help construction projects earn credits under Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). Specifically, it can contribute toward MRc2 Option 1 EPD for projects registered under LEED v4.1, as well as MRc4 Building Product Selection and Procurement for LEED v5. The product can also support other LEED v5 categories, including Environmental Quality: Occupant Experience, Sustainable Sites: Biodiverse Habitat, and Energy and Atmosphere, when used in combination with TGP’s non-rated glazing systems.
Devin Bowman, general manager at TGP, highlighted the significance of this milestone:
FireLite has always been valued for its unique combination of fire protection and aesthetic appeal. Now, with verified environmental data, it provides design teams an additional advantage in achieving sustainability goals.
FireLite is known for its ability to maintain integrity under fire conditions while allowing natural light to pass through, making it ideal for areas where safety and daylighting are critical. With the EPD, architects and project teams can now integrate fire-rated glass into sustainable designs without compromising either performance or environmental responsibility.
