FENSA Introduces Free Recycling Scheme to Support Installer Sustainability

FENSA has launched a new recycling scheme designed to give its registered installers a practical and cost-neutral route for managing window and door waste, as sustainability requirements across the construction and fenestration sectors continue to intensify.

As environmental accountability becomes increasingly embedded in procurement criteria and customer expectations, installers are expected to demonstrate responsible end-of-life material management. However, in the replacement window and door market, recycling has traditionally been linked to added operational costs, particularly through skip hire, transport and landfill disposal, limiting widespread adoption.

Available exclusively to FENSA-registered installers, the new scheme removes these financial barriers by providing free access to recycling services. The initiative enables installers to divert key waste streams from landfill, reduce reliance on on-site skips and lower disposal costs, while improving measurable environmental performance without increasing business overheads.

The scheme operates through a structured, postcode-based referral system, allowing collections to be allocated efficiently based on location and project volume. This is supported by confirmation and reporting processes that give installers clearer visibility of recycling activity, an important step as sustainability metrics and compliance documentation become more prominent within the industry.

Sustainability is no longer a ‘nice to have’. Installers are under pressure to demonstrate responsible practice, but that shouldn’t come at a financial penalty. This scheme provides a straightforward way to minimise waste, reduce skip costs and improve carbon performance at no additional cost.

says Sam Davies, Technical Manager at FENSA.

The recycling framework is supported by specialist partners with established expertise in material recovery. VEKA and REHAU contribute proven uPVC recycling capabilities, while May Glass Recycling ensures responsible processing of glass waste. Together, they address the primary material outputs generated by replacement window and door projects.

FENSA has also confirmed that additional tools are planned to help installers communicate their sustainability efforts more effectively, supporting transparency, differentiation and customer confidence as environmental performance becomes a key competitive factor in the market.
