Vienna’s DC Tower 2 is approaching completion, with its photovoltaic façade now entering the final stage of installation. Designed by Dominique Perrault Architecture in collaboration with Hoffmann-Janz Architects, the 175-metre, 53-storey tower is being developed as a mixed-use building combining offices, residences, coworking and commercial spaces.
A defining element of the project is its building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) façade. ML System has completed the delivery of its photovoltaic glazing, covering a reported 18,950 m². The company estimates that the façade will generate approximately 908 MWh of electricity annually, integrating energy generation directly into the building envelope.
The façade system combines photovoltaic modules with laminated safety glass, parapet glazing and open areas designed to respond to wind loads. Werner Sobek is responsible for façade engineering, with the photovoltaic elements concentrated on the tower’s east, west and south elevations.
Construction is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026. The project is being delivered for S+B Plan & Bau, with Commerz Real as the future owner, while PORR is responsible for the construction works.
