Former British Glass Chief Executive Dave Dalton has been awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the King’s Birthday Honours, recognising more than four decades of dedicated service to the UK glass industry.

Dalton, who retired from British Glass in April 2026, spent over 45 years representing and promoting the interests of glass manufacturers across the United Kingdom. Throughout his career, he became one of the sector’s most influential advocates, working closely with government departments, regulators, industry associations and international organisations to strengthen the position of glass manufacturing within the wider industrial landscape.

The honour reflects Dalton’s long-standing commitment to advancing the industry and promoting glass as a sustainable, innovative and essential material. During his leadership at British Glass, he played a key role in supporting member companies through significant industry challenges and policy changes, while ensuring the sector’s concerns were represented at the highest levels.

His work covered a broad range of strategic issues, including energy costs, decarbonisation, recycling, workforce skills, investment, and industrial competitiveness. Dalton was widely recognised for helping to raise the profile of the UK glass sector and for advocating policies that support long-term manufacturing growth.

Commenting on the award, British Glass Director Dr Nick Kirk described the honour as “hugely deserved,” highlighting Dalton’s tireless commitment to both the glass industry and UK manufacturing.
