Şişecam has successfully commissioned its new TR9 float glass line in Tarsus, Türkiye, marking a major development in European glass manufacturing. With a production capacity of 1,200 metric tonnes per day, the facility is now the largest flat glass production line in Europe and one of the highest-capacity float glass operations worldwide.

The greenfield project was developed to strengthen Şişecam’s flat glass production capabilities and meet growing demand in both domestic and international markets. The line will primarily produce clear flat glass for the Turkish market while also supplying raw glass to the company’s adjacent coating facility in Tarsus.

Technology partner Fives played a key role in the project, providing the complete engineering design for the tin bath and supplying a new generation of associated process equipment. The company also delivered the annealing lehr, designed to operate at cooling speeds of up to 28 metres per minute, significantly increasing throughput while maintaining high product quality standards.

The TR9 facility incorporates several advanced technologies, including AI-supported furnace automation, low-NOx combustion systems and modern glass forming equipment. These innovations are aimed at improving energy efficiency, reducing emissions and enhancing operational performance.

According to Şişecam, the project faced challenges related to global supply chain disruptions and workforce availability. Through coordinated project management and international resources across its operations in 14 countries, the company successfully completed the installation and commissioning phases.
