Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA – May 13, 2026 – HWI, a member of Calderys, has announced the launch of AZTECH-S, a next-generation refractory solution specifically engineered for glass furnace superstructures. Developed to meet the glass industry’s increasing demand for higher performance, extended campaign life, and improved product quality, particularly above the molten glass line – AZTECH-S succeeds the legacy VISTA product and delivers enhanced durability, greater stability, and more consistent performance in demanding glass production environments.
Designed for Harsh Furnace Conditions
In glass furnaces, the superstructure environment, the area above the molten glass, is exposed to a unique combination of thermal, chemical, and mechanical stresses. Refractories in this zone must withstand aggressive vapor-phase attack, alkali condensation, and high-temperature cycling while maintaining structural integrity and minimizing contamination risks.
AZTECH-S was developed specifically to address these challenges. Utilizing a premium sintered AZS (alumina-zirconia-silica) composition, the product provides enhanced resistance to corrosion and volatilization mechanisms commonly encountered in this critical furnace zone. Its refined microstructure supports improved stability in harsh furnace atmospheres, helping operators maintain reliable and consistent performance throughout extended furnace campaigns.
Engineered for Quality and Reliability
One of the key advantages of AZTECH-S lies in its optimized material properties. By reducing degradation and limiting defect-generating interactions, the solution contributes to cleaner furnace operation and more consistent end-product quality.
Ongoing industrial trials are already demonstrating measurable improvements in durability and product quality when compared with traditional materials, including the former VISTA grade. Early results indicate stronger resistance to alkali attack and reduced wear rates, both critical factors in maintaining furnace efficiency and minimizing unplanned downtime.
A Strategic Successor to VISTA
With the introduction of AZTECH-S, the product will serve as the direct successor to VISTA across relevant applications. The transition offers glass manufacturers a seamless upgrade path, combining improved performance with compatibility across existing furnace designs and operating conditions.
The development of AZTECH-S reflects HWI’s continued commitment to innovation and to delivering solutions aligned with the evolving operational priorities of modern glass manufacturers, where higher productivity, longer furnace campaigns, and consistent product quality remain essential.
Official Launch at Glassman Latin America
AZTECH-S will be officially introduced to the industry during Glassman Latin America, taking place on May 20–21, 2026, in Mexico City. As one of the leading events dedicated to innovation and sustainability in glass manufacturing, the exhibition provides an ideal platform for launching this next-generation solution.
HWI representatives will be present at Booth B06 to showcase AZTECH-S, discuss customer applications, and engage with industry professionals.
