Wiegand-Glas Expands Renewable Energy with Major Solar Installation in Germany

Wiegand-Glas: PV installation at Großbreitenbach plant

Wiegand-Glas has completed a large-scale photovoltaic installation at its Großbreitenbach plant in Germany, marking a significant milestone in its sustainability journey. The system spans approximately 42,000 m² of roof space and features more than 18,000 solar modules with a total installed capacity of around 7.9 MWp.

The installation is designed to generate about 7 GWh of green electricity each year, covering roughly 7.5% of the site’s total energy demand. By producing renewable energy directly on site, Wiegand-Glas reduces its reliance on external electricity sources, stabilizes supply, and contributes to meaningful CO₂ reductions in its glass manufacturing operations.

Developed by Wiegand Green Energy GmbH, the project reflects the company’s broader commitment to renewable energy generation, storage, and utilization. It reinforces Wiegand-Glas’s goal of increasing energy efficiency and competitiveness while advancing sustainability across all production facilities.
