Vitro’s Next Generation VacuMax™ VIG Wins 2025 R&D 100 Award

Vitro Wins 2025 R&D 100 Award

Vitro Architectural Glass has announced that its next generation VacuMax™ Vacuum Insulating Glass (VIG) has received the 2025 R&D 100 Award, a recognition reserved for groundbreaking innovations in science and technology.

The award underscores the purpose of VacuMax™ VIG: to redefine energy efficiency in architectural glass. Manufactured exclusively with Vitro’s Solarban® 70 solar-control, low-e glass, the new system achieves an unprecedented 79% U-value improvement, offering R-values as high as R20. This performance rivals traditional wall assemblies, making glass a true high-performance building material.

Beyond thermal efficiency, VacuMax™ VIG is designed with integration in mind. Its slim, lightweight profile enables easy use in standard glazing systems, window frames, and curtainwall applications. This makes it particularly suited for retrofits and renovations where boosting energy performance without major structural changes is critical.

Recent refinements also improve aesthetics, with concealed getters and the removal of visible vacuum ports, ensuring a clean, modern look. In addition, VacuMax™ VIG delivers superior noise reduction, longer service life, and the ability to support generous window-to-wall ratios without compromising comfort.

Through this innovation, Vitro reinforces its mission to push the boundaries of glass technology and create sustainable, occupant-friendly environments.
