Thiele Glas has further enhanced its production quality controls with the installation of the advanced Temper Scanner by Viprotron at the exit of its tempering furnace. The move reinforces the German processor’s commitment to precision, transparency and process optimisation in high-performance glass manufacturing.

After a comprehensive technical evaluation, Thiele Glas selected Viprotron’s modular scanner system based on several decisive criteria:

• Complete edge detection in distortion measurement
• High-accuracy anisotropy detection
• Reliable identification of white haze
• Flexible expandability for future upgrades

The system was developed in close cooperation between the engineering teams of both companies, ensuring seamless integration into the existing production environment.

Five Detection Channels for Maximum Control

The Temper Scanner features up to five detection channels.

• Three channels are dedicated to furnace optimisation, measuring distortion, anisotropy and white haze in real time.
• Two additional channels detect pre-tempering defects such as scratches or coating imperfections, preventing downstream quality losses.

The advanced Temper Scanner 5D version includes a customisable user interface and detailed layer maps for heating and cooling zones. These features enable rapid root-cause analysis and targeted furnace adjustments. Its expandable architecture also allows future hardware upgrades without replacing the entire system, a key factor in long-term operational efficiency.

According to Viprotron, the system supports faster furnace optimisation, higher process stability and sustainable cost savings.
