At this year’s Glass Performance Days (GPD), organized by Glaston, Korean company UBLO showcased its breakthrough approach to window ventilation, designed to eliminate bulky frames and hardware. Instead of a conventional openable sash, UBLO integrates a precisely cut aperture within the insulating glass unit (IGU), covered by a lid that opens and closes seamlessly.
The lids are highly versatile: from transparent covers to insect-filtered versions, planter lids, and special editions crafted from unique materials by designers. For cold regions such as Finland, UBLO employs aerogel-insulated lids that provide excellent thermal performance while maintaining the minimalist aesthetic.
UBLO’s journey began six years ago when the company first unveiled its prototype at GPD. Initially requiring exterior silicone sealing, the system has since evolved into a dry installation method performed entirely from the inside, offering greater convenience and reliability. The user experience has also been refined, making the solution more intuitive and efficient for both installers and homeowners.
After establishing a reputation in Korea and successfully passing European window performance tests, UBLO is expanding into colder markets where high-performance glazing is essential. By partnering with glass processors and window manufacturers, UBLO aims to deliver its ventilation-through-glass innovation to the Nordic region and beyond.
