Jack Aluminium Systems has boosted its position in the commercial security market with the successful achievement of STS202-BR2 approval for its TD68 thermal door system. This certification confirms that the aluminium system meets BR2-level security performance, equivalent to LPS1175 SR2, demonstrating that aluminium can deliver the same level of enhanced protection traditionally associated with steel doorsets.
The approval has already contributed to stronger-than-expected Q4 sales, as architects, specifiers and fabricators increasingly seek lightweight, thermally efficient aluminium solutions for high-security applications. Historically, the majority of STS202-BR2 certifications have been awarded to steel doors, making Jack Aluminium’s achievement a notable advancement for the aluminium sector.

STS202-BR2 measures a door’s ability to resist forced entry using a specified toolkit – typically including hammers, screwdrivers, chisels and small crowbars – designed to simulate real-world, opportunistic attacks. The TD68 system successfully withstood these challenges while continuing to offer the thermal performance, design flexibility and fabrication simplicity that have made it a preferred choice for commercial projects.
The most recent test programme also broadened the TD68’s certified scope. New approvals now cover manual locking and remote access options, as well as an extensive range of tested glass, panel and louvre configurations for both single and double door assemblies. These updates give specifiers greater confidence and more freedom when selecting the system for demanding environments.
We’ve shown aluminium can go head-to-head with steel on security
says Andy Short, Managing Director at Jack Aluminium. “STS202-BR2 approval for the TD68 is proof of that. While there is often confusion between STS202-BR2 and LPS1175 SR2, both represent equivalent levels of attack resistance and differ only in the certification body.”
With its new accreditation, the TD68 system now offers verified high-security performance, combined with proven commercial practicality, making it a strong choice for public-sector, education, transport and commercial projects where trusted protection is essential.
