Speira’s emissions targets, including net-zero by 2045, have been approved by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi).
The targets also include the short-term aim of a 51.2% reduction in scope one and two greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
Head of Sustainability at the aluminium rolling and recycling company, Dorothea Flockert, said: “Overall, Speira commits to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2045.
“We encourage all suppliers to clearly illustrate a commitment to decarbonise their operations through potential measures such as increased efficiency and technological improvements, as well as through the use of renewable energy.”
Speira joined the SBTi initiative in 2022 and sent these targets for approval in December 2024.
The company created these targets as part of their efforts to prevent the worse impacts of climate change, including limiting global warming to 1.5°C above preindustrial levels.
