Sorg Polska, formerly known as Techglass, is pleased to announce the successful completion of a significant project at Qemetica Glass‘s facility in Iłowa, Poland. The undertaking involved the comprehensive reconstruction of the site’s second furnace, a vital component in Qemetica Glass’s glass container production.
Sorg Polska was awarded the contract for this extensive modernization and complete furnace renewal, demonstrating Qemetica Glass’s confidence in our expertise and capabilities. The scope of the project was far-reaching, encompassing not only the furnace itself but also critical supporting infrastructure. This included the batch house, the batch and cullet transport systems, ensuring a seamless and efficient material flow to the furnace.
Our involvement spanned the entire project lifecycle, from initial design and construction to the meticulous delivery of essential materials such as steel and refractory components. We were responsible for the complete working end, forehearths, and regenerators, all crucial elements for efficient and high-quality glass melting. Furthermore, our comprehensive service included the crucial stages of heating up and filling the furnace, ensuring a smooth transition back to operational status.
A key aspect of this modernization was the strategic modification of the existing gas-fired furnace. This work was specifically undertaken to enable the future installation of a boosting system. This forward-thinking approach allows for greater operational flexibility, paving the way for the furnace to function as a hybrid system in the future, potentially optimizing energy consumption and production capabilities.
Beyond the core furnace structure, Sorg Polska also supplied and integrated essential supporting systems. This included comprehensive solutions for heating, cooling, and exhaust gas management, critical for maintaining optimal operating conditions and environmental compliance. Additionally, our scope extended to the transportation of the IS machines, and the associated cabling and piping, ensuring all components were seamlessly integrated for a fully functional production line.
This project is particularly significant given the context of both companies. Qemetica Glass, a division of the chemical group Qemetica, plays a crucial role in the glass industry, leveraging Qemetica’s production of vital raw materials like soda ash. With a rich history of producing glass containers since 1946, Qemetica Glass holds a prominent position as Poland’s largest manufacturer of glass lanterns for grave lights.
Sorg Polska deeply values the trust and collaborative spirit demonstrated by Qemetica Glass throughout this complex project. Their partnership was instrumental in the successful execution of the reconstruction. We extend our sincere thanks to Qemetica Glass for their cooperation and wish them a long and successful furnace campaign, supported by this newly modernized and highly efficient furnace. This project stands as a testament to successful collaboration and the commitment to advancing glass production capabilities.
