SCHOTT, a global pioneer in specialty glass, has become the first company in India to locally produce high-precision glass tubing for syringes and cartridges at its state-of-the-art Jambusar facility in Gujarat. This expansion addresses the growing demand for GLP-1-based injectables such as semaglutide, used for diabetes management and weight control, with the GLP-1 segment projected to grow at a CAGR of 33%.

The new production line, based on SCHOTT’s German expertise, ensures precise manufacturing. SCHOTT’s Type I borosilicate FIOLAX® glass offers consistent wall thickness and tight inner diameter tolerance, enabling smooth plunger movement and reliable drug delivery. Its perfeXion® quality system analyzes 100,000 data points every minute to maintain zero-defect production.

“This expansion reinforces India’s healthcare self-sufficiency and supports the pharmaceutical ecosystem,” said Sundeep Prabhu, Senior VP Sales & Marketing, SCHOTT Glass India. With over 140 years of experience and two decades in India, SCHOTT now fully serves all glass primary packaging needs, from vials and ampoules to syringes and cartridges.
