Saint-Gobain has announced it will close its glass production plant in Herzogenrath by the end of 2025, affecting 125 employees. The Paris-based company cited declining demand for automotive glass amid ongoing challenges in the global automotive industry.
In recent years, Saint-Gobain invested in modernizing the facility, including attempts to convert the glass melting tank to hydrogen technology, but these initiatives were unsuccessful. While the Herzogenrath plant will cease operations, the company’s Sekurit facility in the city will continue producing automotive glass.
Saint-Gobain emphasized its commitment to supporting affected employees with a fair social plan during the transition. The closure reflects the company’s strategy to align production with evolving market needs while maintaining its leadership in automotive and safety glass innovation.
