Kuraray Takes Trademark Protection Seriously: Clarifying Confusion in the Glass Industry
As a leader in the production of PVB and ionoplast interlayers for laminated safety glass applications in the architectural segment, Kuraray attaches great importance to maintaining customer trust and confidence in its products. Protecting its registered trademarks and brands is essential in ensuring the distinctiveness and quality of Kuraray products in the marketplace.
Recently, Kuraray has noticed confusion in the industry surrounding its SentryGlas® ionoplast interlayer branding. Other manufacturers have produced and sold interlayers using the name “SGP” to refer to their products, attempting to benefit from the reputation associated with Kuraray’s SentryGlas® brand. However, these interlayers do not have the same properties as authentic SentryGlas® products and can cause confusion in the marketplace.
To address this issue, Kuraray has consolidated references for its SentryGlas® products as “SG™” and obtained a US trademark registration for SG™. While the acronym SGP was used in the past, the proper designation for authentic SentryGlas® interlayers is SG™. In addition to SentryGlas®, Kuraray also produces the next generation of the product line, SentryGlas® Xtra™ (SGX™).
