Glass Technology ‘s commitment to expanding its global footprint in the solar energy sector has taken a significant step forward with the recent contract awarded to Horn GmbH.

Horn, a recognized leader in flat glass equipment manufacturing, will be supplying a state-of-the-art solar glass furnace to Glass Technology’s new production facility in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The project, a greenfield undertaking in the Al Ghail Industrial Zone, underscores the growing demand for high-quality solar glass and represents a substantial investment in the region’s renewable energy infrastructure. The 300 tons per day (tpd) line, incorporating Horn’s latest technological advancements, is specifically designed to produce low-iron solar glass with an anti-reflective coating, crucial for maximizing the efficiency of solar panels.

This ambitious project, set to be operational in the second half of 2025, will see a completely new glass factory established on a sprawling 10-hectare site. Importantly, it will also contribute significantly to the local economy, creating approximately 150 new jobs in the Al Ghail Industrial Zone.

Horn’s involvement extends far beyond simply supplying a furnace. The company is responsible for a comprehensive turnkey solution, encompassing everything from the supply of raw materials and the hot end, all the way through to the cutting line and storage technology. This holistic approach ensures seamless integration and optimized performance throughout the entire production process.

The facility will be equipped with complete processing technology for both the front and back glass components of solar panels, solidifying its position as a comprehensive solution for solar glass manufacturing. While Horn directly supplies the melting technology and cast glass rolling machines, including the associated automation system, they are leveraging strategic partnerships to integrate the roller annealing lehr, cold end, and solar glass processing technology.

This collaborative approach allows Glass Technology to benefit from best-in-class solutions across the entire production line, with Horn overseeing the overall technological planning from its headquarters in Germany.

The scope of Horn’s responsibility includes the delivery of all process equipment, its installation, supervision, and commissioning. As specialists in hot end technology, their contribution is critical to the success of this project.

This partnership between Glass Technology and Horn signifies a significant advancement in solar glass production technology and underscores the growing importance of the UAE as a hub for renewable energy innovation. The successful completion of this project promises to deliver high-quality solar glass, contributing to the global transition towards a more sustainable energy future.
