Willmott Dixon Interiors has completed a £12.3 million refurbishment of the National Maritime Museum’s Ocean Court in Greenwich, London, with a major focus on its glazed roof. The project installed over 2,550 m² of solar-protective glazing and Barrisol membrane, addressing issues such as water ingress, overheating, and poor acoustic performance.
The new glazing allows abundant natural light to fill the space while improving thermal comfort and reducing solar heat gain, enhancing the visitor experience beneath this Grade I listed roof. All extracted glazing units were fully recycled, supporting the project’s sustainability goals.
In addition to the glazing, the refurbishment upgraded underfloor heating, cooling, ventilation, lighting, and electrical systems. The transformed Ocean Court is now fully reopened, offering a brighter, more comfortable, and acoustically improved environment for the museum’s millions of visitors, while preserving the historic integrity of this celebrated central space.
