Glass for Europe has joined the European Commission’s European Housing Alliance, bringing the flat glass industry’s expertise into EU-level discussions on housing affordability, building quality and sustainability.
Announced as a key initiative under the European Affordable Housing Plan, the European Housing Alliance is an open, multi-level platform designed to address Europe’s housing challenges through cooperation between EU institutions, national, regional and local authorities, and stakeholders representing tenants, property owners, young people and industry.
Glass for Europe’s membership places the flat glass sector within this broader policy dialogue, particularly as the EU seeks to increase the availability of affordable, energy-efficient and high-quality housing. The association intends to highlight the contribution of high-performance glazing to building performance, including reduced energy consumption, improved thermal comfort, better indoor living conditions and access to natural daylight.
These aspects are particularly relevant to Europe’s housing objectives, where affordability increasingly intersects with energy performance, renovation requirements and long-term building resilience. Advanced glazing technologies can support these goals by improving the thermal and solar-control properties of building envelopes, both in new construction and renovation projects.
Through its participation, Glass for Europe will contribute industry knowledge and promote the role of readily available glazing solutions in European housing policy discussions. The Alliance’s next plenary session is expected in the first half of January 2027.
