Vetropack has installed a new automated washing line for polypropylene (PP) layers, improving water efficiency and supporting the reuse of packaging materials in glass production.
The new equipment automates the washing, rinsing, drying, UV disinfection and stacking of PP layers used in glass packaging palletising. Its water cascade system enables more efficient process-water management and extends the intervals between water changes. Combined with UV sterilisation, the technology achieves approximately 10% lower water consumption compared with a standard equipment configuration, according to the supplier’s data.
The installation also increases operational efficiency through a higher degree of automation, simplified handling and reduced maintenance requirements. With a processing capacity of up to 12,000 PP layers per eight-hour shift, the line is designed to handle substantial volumes of reusable packaging materials.
By cleaning and disinfecting PP layers for subsequent use, Vetropack aims to reduce water consumption while supporting material reuse within its production and logistics operations. The investment represents a practical improvement in resource management, addressing both water use and the repeated utilisation of packaging components.
