As Munich expands westward, the Freiham WA 16 residential development exemplifies a forward-thinking approach to urban living, one that balances architectural quality with sustainability. Glas Trösch played a vital role in this landmark project, supplying approximately 2,300 m² of high-performance glass solutions that enhance both comfort and energy efficiency.
Designed by Maier Neuberger Architekten, the development features a visually engaging combination of seven-storey towers and four-storey recessed buildings. The carefully planned façade uses a rhythmic pattern of rendered surfaces and ventilated brick cladding, creating depth, variation, and structural clarity. At the heart of the complex is a sheltered courtyard that houses a daycare center with generous outdoor spaces, supporting the needs of young families.

To meet the project’s stringent energy performance requirements, Glas Trösch provided a tailored mix of glass types. For the west-facing façade, SWISSLAMEX laminated safety glass with SILVERSTAR SELEKT 74/42 coating was chosen. This advanced glazing delivers effective solar protection in summer while offering excellent thermal insulation during the colder months. On the north-east façade, SILVERSTAR EN2plus was used to maximise natural light while maintaining high insulation standards, ideal for morning exposure.
The intelligent interplay of materials and coatings reflects both the architectural intent and the energy goals of the project. With its contribution, Glas Trösch demonstrates how innovative glass solutions can support modern, livable, and sustainable urban developments.
