Located in the scenic outskirts of Karaj, Iran, Friend Villa by UFO Studio occupies a 1,214 m² site with 380 m² of built space. The two-story residence combines a rectangular ground floor housing primary living areas with a curved-roof first floor for master bedrooms. An outdoor swimming pool complements the design, creating both aesthetic appeal and functional outdoor living space.
While the villa’s visual language emphasizes a contrast between light and dark materials, glass plays a central role in achieving modernity, transparency, and energy efficiency. The villa’s façade strategy likely integrates floor-to-ceiling high-performance glazing along the pool-facing walls and living areas, enhancing daylight penetration and establishing a visual connection with the surrounding landscape. For first-floor master bedrooms under the curved roof, custom curved laminated glass panels could follow the roof geometry, allowing unobstructed views while maintaining structural safety and acoustic performance.

From a technical standpoint, the villa’s façade would benefit from insulated double-glass units (IGUs) with Low-E coatings, achieving U-values of 1.1–1.4 W/m²K, suitable for Iran’s continental climate. Triple-glass options could be deployed in sun-exposed façades to further reduce heat gain while preserving clarity and minimizing glare. The framing system would likely use thermally broken aluminum profiles, ensuring structural rigidity for large spans while reducing thermal bridging.

Advanced shading strategies, such as integrated external louvers, overhangs, or dynamic electrochromic glazing, can optimize solar control without sacrificing transparency. For poolside façades, laminated safety glass (e.g., 10 mm + 10 mm PVB interlayer) ensures protection against impact and wind loads, a common industry standard in luxury residential projects.

In terms of industry specifics, Friend Villa demonstrates how contemporary villas combine architectural elegance with façade engineering principles. High-performance glazing not only creates a premium aesthetic but also enhances occupant comfort, reduces cooling loads, and ensures compliance with modern building envelope standards. By balancing solid wall mass with transparent glazed surfaces, UFO Studio achieves a harmonious integration of form, function, and energy-conscious design, reflecting best practices in modern residential façade design.
