Glass for Europe recently hosted a dedicated workshop on the evolving Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), bringing together stakeholders from across the flat glass value chain to better understand upcoming requirements and their implications.
Although flat glass is not directly used in packaging products, the sector relies heavily on packaging for the safe transport of materials and for receiving goods from suppliers. This makes the PPWR highly relevant, prompting companies to closely monitor developments and prepare for compliance.
The session provided participants with a clear overview of the regulation’s implementation status and its expected impact. Maria Masdemont Fageda from EUROPEN outlined key PPWR requirements, including recyclability targets, reuse obligations, and the structure of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes. She also highlighted the regulation’s timeline, helping attendees anticipate key milestones.
A national perspective was introduced by Nelly Philipponnat, representing UDTVP. Her presentation focused on France’s ongoing legislative developments, particularly the EPR framework for professional packaging, offering a practical example of how member states are adapting to PPWR requirements.
