Flat glass prices continued their upward trajectory in June 2026, even as overall construction input costs declined, according to the latest U.S. Producer Price Index (PPI). The figures highlight the contrasting cost dynamics facing manufacturers, fabricators and glazing contractors across the construction supply chain.

The PPI for flat glass increased by 0.1% in June, following a revised 0.9% rise in May, leaving prices 7.0% higher than in June 2025. The flat glass category covers domestically produced float, sheet and plate glass. Meanwhile, overall glass and glass product manufacturing costs also rose 0.1% during the month and were 5.9% higher year-on-year, reflecting continued pressure from raw materials and energy. Since February, manufacturing costs for the sector have climbed 1.4%.

In contrast, construction input prices declined 1.1% in June, with nonresidential construction inputs recording the same monthly decrease. Despite the monthly easing, input costs remain elevated, standing 7.6% higher than a year ago, while nonresidential construction inputs are 7.4% above June 2025.

According to Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Chief Economist Anirban Basu, the monthly decline was primarily driven by lower oil prices. However, he warned that renewed geopolitical tensions involving Iran, together with rising prices for tariff-sensitive commodities such as iron, steel and copper, are expected to place renewed upward pressure on construction material costs in the coming months.

Other glazing-related materials also remained expensive. Metal window prices rose 0.2% in June and were 17.8% higher year-on-year, while fabricated structural metal products increased 0.5% during the month and 6.1% annually. Prices for ornamental and architectural metalwork and metal doors and frames remained unchanged in June but continued to show significant annual increases of 8.5% and 9.7%, respectively.
