AGC Glass Europe’s FINEO vacuum insulating glass has achieved a significant milestone: it is the first and only vacuum insulating glass to receive a voluntary CE marking in the world.
This accomplishment underscores FINEO’s commitment to quality, safety, and compliance within the European construction market.
The European Construction Products Regulation (CPR) 305/2011 mandates CE marking for construction products covered by harmonized European standards. However, due to its innovative nature and lack of a specific harmonized standard, vacuum insulating glass was previously exempt. Recognizing the importance of CE marking for market access and consumer confidence within the European Economic Area (EEA), AGC Glass Europe embarked on a lengthy and complex process via the European Organisation for Technical Assessments (EOTA).
This process culminated in the publication of the European Technical Assessment (ETA 20/00481) in 2020 and, more recently, the European Assessment Document (EAD 300021-00-04042) on November 20th, 2024. This rigorous assessment, conducted by UBAtc, the Belgian Association for Technical Approval in Construction, verified FINEO’s performance across key characteristics including reaction to fire, load resistance, sound and thermal insulation, and durability. 
The voluntary CE marking signifies that FINEO meets all relevant EU safety, health, and environmental protection standards. This certification offers several key benefits:
