FGIA Releases Updated Guide on Handling Architectural Aluminum

The Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA) has published a revised edition of its guidance document focused on the proper care and handling of architectural aluminum products throughout the construction process.

Titled AAMA CW-10-26: Care and Handling of Architectural Aluminum from Shop to Site, the updated manual provides practical recommendations to help maintain the quality and finish of aluminum components from fabrication through delivery and installation. The previous edition of this guide was released in 2015.

The publication covers several key stages in the supply chain, including inspection procedures, protective measures during fabrication and packaging, transportation guidance, correct unloading practices, appropriate on-site storage, and checks during installation.

Carl Troiano of Trojan Powder Coating, who chairs the FGIA AMC Finishes Committee, explained that the updated version aims to reduce potential damage or quality issues that can occur after manufacturing and finishing processes. He added that the manual serves as a useful reference for ensuring protective packaging and handling methods are followed correctly.

The document is available through the FGIA online store, where members of the Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance can purchase it for $25, while the non-member price is $70.
