Immerse Yourself in Recycling Education: Every Can Counts Launches ‘Infinity Room’ Exhibit at Xplore! Science Discovery Centre

Xplore! Science Discovery Centre in North Wales has just welcomed a captivating new exhibit – the ‘Infinity Room,’ a creation of the recycling not-for-profit organization Every Can Counts. This immersive installation, which is free for the public to access, transforms the visitor experience at Xplore! and aims to educate all ages about the significance of recycling drink cans and the endless recyclability of aluminium.

Inside the ‘Infinity Room,’ visitors encounter a striking illusion created by mirrors, surrounded by an infinite number of suspended aluminium cans. The focal point, a giant drink can, serves as the backdrop for an educational journey led by a narrator, unraveling the intricacies of aluminium can recycling and its environmental benefits. Comprising 1,500 recycled cans and 25 square meters of mirrors, the exhibit not only educates but also provides a visually stunning spectacle. Visitors are encouraged to share their experiences on social media using the hashtag #EveryCanCounts.

In tandem with the exhibit, Every Can Counts conducted research into the recycling habits of Wrexham residents, revealing that, on average, people enjoy approximately four canned drinks per week. Despite a commendable 90% recycling rate, the study highlighted that only 45% of respondents consistently use recycling bins in public places, and 34% would take packaging home if no recycle bin is available. Respondents expressed a need for more recycling bins (66%), recyclable packaging (37%), and clearer signage (25%) to enhance their recycling efforts.

Jennifer Hough, Education Officer at Xplore! Science Discovery Centre, expressed enthusiasm for hosting the ‘Infinity Room,’ emphasizing its role in their efforts to reduce carbon footprint. She also hinted at upcoming decarbonization activities, including solar panel installations. Chris Latham-Warde, Programme Manager at Every Can Counts, shared excitement about bringing the ‘Infinity Room’ to Wrexham, emphasizing its role in raising awareness about aluminium’s infinite recyclability. With the exhibit open until September, Every Can Counts hopes to inspire visitors to make positive changes in their recycling habits and influence their networks to do the same.
