One of the standout features of the headquarters is the incorporation of a courtyard typology inspired by the existing master plan buildings. This central courtyard not only houses a lush green garden on the ground floor but also facilitates natural ventilation through a chimney effect, promoting a healthy and sustainable indoor environment.
In a nod to the local sunlight conditions, the building’s roof has been ingeniously tilted to enlarge the north facade, thereby maximizing workspace with ample indirect natural light. To further enhance energy efficiency and create a comfortable indoor atmosphere, the south-facing facades and roof are enveloped in a second skin crafted from a custom continuous pleated aluminum mesh. This innovative design element not only filters intense light but also pays homage to the company’s core identity by drawing inspiration from its gears and the shavings produced in its daily supply chain operations.
The headquarters’ unique sloped roof design culminates in six terraces, all oriented towards the south, offering serene outdoor spaces for contemplation and relaxation. These terraces not only provide breathtaking views of the iconic Santuario Madonna di San Luca but also serve as a seamless extension of the indoor workspace, enriching the daily experience of the employees.
Moreover, the strategic use of high-clarity glass in the building’s construction not only allows for a seamless connection with nature but also ensures optimal working conditions for the employees. Through the meticulous processing of the glass as laminated and tempered, the architects have created an environment that remains comfortable and conducive to productivity, even when exposed to prolonged sunlight. The reflective properties of the glass further contribute to maintaining ideal working conditions, ensuring that the temperature remains regulated and the light is diffused effectively throughout the workspace.
But without forgetting the acoustics, a very important point to create the comfort of employees and visitors in this facility and it should be remembered that its location, which has car noises but also strong winds, that is, where the noises are of a high decibel. The Solarraum company has been in charge of the project for the acoustics.
