After more than four decades of dedicated service, Dave Dalton has officially retired, marking the end of a remarkable 45-year career in the UK glass sector. His contributions have played a pivotal role in shaping the industry’s voice, particularly in promoting glass as a sustainable and future-focused material.
Beginning his career as an analytical chemist, Dalton built deep expertise in glass composition and technology before progressing into leadership roles in research, development, and senior management. He later served as Technical Director at Glass Technology Services and ultimately became Chief Executive of British Glass.
Throughout his tenure, Dalton represented the £1.6 billion sector at the highest levels, advocating to government bodies and international stakeholders. He guided the industry through significant challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the energy crisis, while continuing to highlight glass’s role in the circular economy.
Following his retirement, Dr Nick Kirk steps into the role of Federation Director, ensuring continuity. Dalton’s legacy leaves a strong foundation for the future of UK glass manufacturing and sustainability leadership.
